How the Writer works

The Writer is where you'll spend most of your time. It's a chat, like ChatGPT, with a tool for each kind of writing.

  1. Click Writer in the sidebar, then click a tool.
  2. Read the To get started, please share: box. It lists exactly what to give that tool.
  3. Type or paste your inputs and press send.
  4. Refine it in the same chat: "make it shorter", "try a different angle", "add the story about my grandma's kitchen".
  5. Copy what you like and make it yours before publishing. See Make every draft yours.

Tips for the message box

  • Enter sends. Shift+Enter adds a new line.
  • Messages can be up to 200,000 characters. The counter under the box shows how close you are.
  • You can keep typing your next message while a reply writes.
  • Scroll up to read while a reply writes. Click the arrow button to jump back to the bottom.
  • Long messages you send fold up with a Show full message link, so the chat stays easy to read.

Stop, Regenerate, and Copy

  • Stop (the square button) keeps what's written so far, marked "Response stopped."
  • Regenerate writes the reply again.
  • Copy copies the reply with its formatting.
  • The thumbs tell us what worked. They don't change the reply.

How much of the chat does the Writer read?

Your last 10 or more messages, each time you send. In a very long chat, a fresh chat with the key details can work better.

"This reply hit the length limit and stopped early"

Type "continue" and send. It picks up where it left off.

Tip

Two things make the biggest difference: leave the Personalization toggle on, and @ mention your posts instead of pasting recipes.
