Traffic: the big picture

Traffic shows how your whole blog is doing for any dates you pick. Here's how to pick your dates, read the comparisons, and see what changed.

  • See views, sessions, Search clicks, and click-through rate for any dates.
  • Each card shows the comparison you picked. Select a card to see its graph.
  • See where your traffic came from over time, and what changed.

Pick your dates

Click 7 days, 30 days, or 3 months, or Custom for more choices and a calendar. Then choose vs prev period (the same number of days just before) or vs last year (the same dates a year earlier).

Traffic's date pills, the vs prev period and vs last year switch, and Match Day of Week
Dates, comparison, and Match Day of Week at the top of Traffic.

What does Match Day of Week do?

It's on by default. It moves the comparison by whole weeks so Mondays line up with Mondays, since most blogs get more traffic on some days than others. Last year becomes 52 weeks back (364 days).

Graph only some sources

On Sessions or Views, click Sources above the graph, pick the ones you want, and click Apply. It resets when you reload the page.

To see every Google Analytics source behind each group, open Every source and medium. See what counts as each traffic source.

See what changed

What changed? shows how many more or fewer sessions you had, which sources the difference came from, and the 5 posts that gained and dropped the most. Posts are ranked by sessions gained or lost, not percent, and the change has to be bigger than normal ups and downs.

Follow your busiest posts

How are your pages trending? graphs your 8 busiest posts day by day. Click Posts to pick up to 8 others from your 50 busiest.

Bookmark a view

Your dates, comparison, and the card you picked are saved in the page address. Bookmark it to come back to the same view.

Google finishes its numbers a few days late, so your dates end about 3 days ago.
